Defiance came from cooperation by Trion Worlds (authors to the best of the successful MMORPG Rift) and the American television channel SYFY. The first made a online shooter, the second – the series. This was reflected in the slogan: “Watch the show. Play The Game. Change the World ". But the phrase "see the show" is for a reason. Initially, we were promised a full-scale MMO-Boevik with an open and constantly Black Magic sister sites changing world, the weather affecting the course of the game, thousands of characters on the same map and, most curious, interactive synergy with the series-it was assumed that the events of the television show would influence the development of the online world and, vice versa. In the meantime, nothing even smells of this.

Once upon a time, aliens-volumes arrived, looking for a new house. Negotiations with people led to a war, which had protracted for a long seven years, but in the end, both sides went to the world and began to live together on Earth, accidentally terraced by aliens.

[[Bullet]] In the vastness of the game, such audio days are scattered, allowing you to at least somehow get acquainted with the history of the world.

Imagination immediately finishes an epic prologue with beautiful scenes and corresponding music, is it so? In fact, all of the introductory was submitted in five abstract sentences, of which nothing is clear – turn on the imagination or watch the series where everyone clearly explains.

However, the subtleties of the background in the online Defiance are not enough: after reading those five lines for the first time, you will forget about them after a couple of minutes. The game takes place in one with the television series, but in a completely different place. The show talks about everyday life in a post -war society, where aliens have to endure the presence of people (and vice versa), and the game … hmm … this is such a post -apocalyptic action movie with cars and adventures.

How hard it is to be a mercenary

There are four classes here. True, there is no difference between them either – only the starting set of decorative clothing and weapons differs, but both very soon can be changed. The character’s skills are not attached to the class, and there are only four of them: an increase in damage, super -sustainness, invisibility and distracting hologram like the one that Zero had in Borderlands 2. We choose one of these skills at the very beginning, and then, if we do not like it or get tired, it can be replaced by the other. Each skill is enhanced by a number of passive talents, but there is nothing interesting among them: plus to damage when shooting in a squat, increased reloading speed, etc.D.

Instead of levels here, the so-called ego rating. For the execution of missions, he rises by ten units at once, for repeated murder of monsters and the discovery of achievements – on a unit. The rating affects the power of the extracted weapons, plus for every one of the units of the expls can slightly improve the studied skill. But in fact, pumping does not affect little: if you were at least a tenth ego-level, at least five hundredth, mutants from the starting location will humiliate you with about the same success. Borderlands

Defiance is borrined in borderlands. Here is a very characteristic role system (one guiding skill plus a mountain of passive skills), a set of equipment (two cells for weapons, another under the shield and one for a grenade) and a sea of ​​weapons with different effects of firing. Defiance on weapons makes a special emphasis – here you need to shoot a lot. So many.

And it tires soon. Enemies climb from everywhere: from the door, as if deliberately nailed to each wall, from bottomless trucks on the road or directly from the ground. There is no salvation from a veiled respower anywhere; At any time, for example, a helicopter with enemy landing and, it seems, a black hole inside, from which an endless stream of soldiers can be flying.

The enemies have vulnerable places that you need to try to get into – this is almost never found in online games, but in the case of Defiance, the damage system is quite dubious achievement. You just need to shoot in the head or in the illuminated parts of the body.

Opponents here not to say the savvy (always, not hiding, carry the player along the shortest route), but even if you died under the pressure of cannon fodder, then it's okay. Once you can resurrect right on the spot, and then – we pay a symbolic fine and rise two meters from the battlefield.

Actually, a good part of the plot campaign is reduced to such skirmishes with crowds. If Borderlands was at least funny, then Defiance is deliberately serious. The absurdity is aggravated by the fact that there is not a single original character or plot move in the game.

Rage

In addition to the main quest line for fifteen to twenty hours, there are many side classes in Defiance. The secondary missions do not particularly inspire-these are the same boring shootings with respuna, from which it begins to turn back after the second or third times. Quite often, "spontaneous" quests in manner come across Guild Wars 2 : here in an abandoned fort, mutants locked a detachment of comrades, here the road with hostages blocked the road, but a wounded man is lying around in the ditch. But it is worth descending to one of them, as the same tedious cultural program used in other tasks begins, and the desire to help immediately disappears.

[[Bullet]] During the “Arctalls”, one of the best moments of the game occur, when it becomes clearly visible that more than five people live in the Defiance world.

The map in Defiance is rather large and entirely lifted by roads, so without a car there is nowhere, and therefore you are almost immediately given a vehicle. First, an ATV, and later it will be possible to buy some Dodge Charger (strange, but the apocalypse experienced only Dodzhi). It’s nice to ride in Defiance, and the races suggested here by themselves. The catch is that you can compete only with the record table, to talk with other racers in the general race – no way.

The main entertainment in Defiance, not counting the plot, is the so -called Arkfalls. They resemble Rift faults, but on a much larger scale. From the side, the process resembles a huge rally of lovers to relax in nature: a noisy company goes to the fragment of the ship that has fallen from the sky, next to which hordes of alien beetles or mutants are swarming. They made a prayer, shot, squeezed – and drove on. As a reward, everyone receives some equipment, a little experience and money.

[[Bullet]] Meet our "Mount". It does not fly, but adequately perceives the relief and you can put the enemies on it. Each transport has its own characteristics: strength, speed and caused damage. If you believe the data, this Dodge is the fastest in the game.

To participate in the struggle for space scrap is incredibly fun, but there are no tactics in the assault on the assault: there are usually a cloud, so it’s enough just to shoot for victory, and where and at whom it is not important.

PVP is pretty curious. There are quick Deathmatch, but the most interesting is the capture of control points in Shadow War mode. These battles take place on the main map with about a hundred players. At first, the existing mess (everyone crushes each other and confuses their own with strangers), but then you get used to it and the regime delays. If it were not for the dominance of invisibles with shotgun (approached, opened, shot at point blank range, went on), in Shadow War could be lingered for a long time.

However, PVP balance is easy to fix with patches, but the rest is so easy to change. The main problem of Defance is that in principle it does not work like mmo. Shadow War and Arctalls are the only places where mass is felt. The rest of the time we play a single -user action movie, where other players run past from time to time. It’s inconvenient to even arrange a cooperative with a comrade, you can’t just take and share a quest with it or help in a plot battle – mission are almost always executed in separate instances.

Finally, we will talk about the main “features” of Defiance – the interaction of the game and the series. The first season is already shot and broadcast on television, that is, at least six months the game will not be able to influence the show. Of course, you can wait, only now it’s not clear how players can change the course of the series: everything that is in the game now is a linear plot and some PVP. Moreover, everything happens three thousand kilometers west from the scene of the TV shows.

Now the series is much more interesting than the online game of the same name. If only because it has something in addition to shooting and indefatigable cliches.

There is only one new idea in Defiance – the connection of the game and the series – and even that is not working yet, and everything else is borrowed from nowhere. Rift faults, records from DC Universe, and everything else is from Borderlands. Better look at the first episodes of the show.
